Friends of World Teaching-Nursing maintains up-dated lists of all American Community Schools, International Schools, Church-related and Industry-supported schools, private, and governments schools; listings for clinics and hospitals where American and Canadian educators and nurses may seek employment. Vacancies occur and are filled throughout the year. Unlike the school districts in the United States, overseas schools, and clinics and hospitals, in most cases, are not inundated with applications for employment. This is mainly so because few American and Canadian teachers and nurses are aware of these challenging opportunities. Many overseas schools even have to place paid advertisements in educational journals and magazines in order to make their vacancies known.
Not only teachers, but also
are needed and hired throughout the year.
How long are the contracts for these overseas assignments?Usually, teachers, nurses, and school administrators remain in overseas contracts from three months to two years. Most of these contracts are renewable. There are also many summer positions throughout the world. Graduating seniors are also encouraged to investigate these challenging opportunities. This form of tenure creates about 6000 vacancies each year in a professional work force of approximately 18,000 educators in some 1000 American Community Schools, International Schools, private schools, church-related schools, and multi-national, industry-supported English-speaking schools and colleges, clinics and hospitals in over 100 foreign countries. Foreign language knowledge is seldom required. Salaries vary from country to country, but in most cases they are more than adequate for overseas living! Qualification requirements, for the most part, are similar to those in the U.S. and Canada, except that State Certification is seldom required. We have listings also for Alaska, Hawaii, Marshall and Caroline Islands, Guam, The Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and Samoa. How do you get these
exciting jobs?!
